Worth The Cross?

As I scrolled through my Instagram a few years back I remember seeing a post that said something similar to " You may not like me, but Jesus thinks i'm to die for." As a baby in the faith I thought the saying was extremely accurate and amazing. The fact that Jesus thought I was worthy enough to die for was pretty sweet, but as I think back on it, it couldn't have been any more wrong! If we were worth dying for, Why didn't we save ourselves? Why did Jesus come?  We were sinners,  and deserved every bit of the wrath of God.  Most people will not be willing to die for an upright person Romans 5:7. But God being God showed his love for us in that while we were sinners Romans 5:8 . We were enemies of God Romans 5:10. If we have the mindset that we were worth the cross where does grace and mercy fit? For it is by grace through faith that we are saved Ephesians 2:8-9. The definition of grace is the free and unmerited favor of God. Salvation is a gift, and it is not something that we can boast about in our own works. Saying " I was worth it" takes away the true beauty and truth of Salvation.  If we are not worthy enough to unit the strap on his sandals how are we worthy enough of the Cross? Mark 1:7  . It was undeserved on both hands he didn't deserve the wrath of God, and we didn't deserve the Gift of salvation. He took our place bore what we couldn't so that we could dwell with him forever. That's a dope love story right?

It does not stop there.. Although our worth does not come from ourselves., There is hope. Jesus! Every thing that we lack, he has, everything that we are not, he is. We are redeemed, Ephesians 1:7 and because of grace our worth lies in Jesus.  I ran across a quote that said "There is a difference between i'm worthy, so he died for me. and he died for me and gave me my worth." The latter part of the quote is true for the believer.  If we focus more on how worthy he is, and how unworthy we are. I believe we will see the love of God much brighter in our lives, and truly accept grace for what it is. Grace and peace.
